CINCINNATI (Reuters) – Deborah Coleman lost her unemployment benefits in April, and now fears for millions of others if the Senate does not extend aid for the jobless.

“It’s too late for me now,” she said, fighting back tears at the Freestore Foodbank in the low-income Over-the-Rhine district near downtown Cincinnati. “But it will be terrible for the people who’ll lose their benefits if Congress does nothing.”

For nearly two years, Coleman says she has filed an average of 30 job applications a day, but remains jobless.

“People keep telling me there are jobs out there, but I haven’t been able to find them.”

Coleman, 58, a former manager at a telecommunications firm, said the only jobs she found were over the Ohio state line in Kentucky, but she cannot reach them because her car has been repossessed and there is no bus service to those areas.

After her $300 a week benefits ran out, Freestore Foodbank brokered emergency 90-day support in June for rent. Once that runs out, her future is uncertain.

“I’ve lost everything and I don’t know what will happen to me,” she said.

With a Fiscal Year 2011 Defense budget of $708.2 BILLION of course these warmongers cant spare any change!
Im glad the U.S. is still the best at something…
THE LARGEST DEFENSE BUDGET IN THE WORLD!!!
STILL LARGER THAN ALL OTHER COUNTRIES COMBINED!!!
What will they be defending? We will be a third world country by spring of next year!

I agree; we don’t need to spend billions on this war, but how quickly you are forgetting which president started this war and did not want to end it abruptly either.

I also find it rather hypocritical to complain about a lack of government aid when most republicans will turn around and complain about too much government involvement. Please choose one way or the other. It appears that many folks are picking and choosing their level/want of government involvement as it suits them best.

Franklin Roosevelt was given an unprecedented amount of power in order to enact government programs during the Great Depression. These very programs were key in pulling much of our country out of complete hopelessness and utter poverty. I don’t like driving to work everyday and seeing people sitting on their stoops watching the world go to work as they collect their “relief” checks then by beer and lottery tickets, but I do know that there are truely people that do need the help and who are actively seeing employment. Our system is not perfect and needs some serious work, but please don’t complain about the government being to overbearing and involved and then turn around and complain that you are not getting enough help from it.

It doesnt matter who started the war. What matters is that it is being CONTINUED with no end in sight. I am against entitlement programs but I would rather have the money given to the people of THIS COUNTRY instead of spent on Wars and funding Warlords.

Please do not insult me with the Repub/Democrat junk… I think for myself… not with a Party. Government is obviously TOO big and full of “Career Politicians” that do nothing with its size except line the pockets of all those who pull strings.

So we cant complain that our government is “overbearing” and that we “are not getting enough help”? Absolutely NOTHING to do with each other!
